All 670 students have been evacuated from an elementary school in Riverside, California, where a parent is reportedly holding a teacher hostage.

The incident began just before noon local time, at the Castle View Elementary School at 6201 Shaker Drive, in Riverside, according to Riverside police authorities.

The children reportedly were not in the classroom at the time the man came in and took the teacher hostage.

Police negotiators are currently trying to talk the man into giving up.

NBC4 News has quoted the school district as they released the following statement:

“Unfortunately, at this time we cannot release any students until the lockdown order has been lifted. We will communicate with you again as soon as the situation is resolved and give you further instructions on student pickup.”

KTLA5 reported that another school staff member has been taken to the hospital with injuries, after getting into an altercation with the suspect.
