Breaking the mold, teacher assigns conservative summer reading list

Conservative students in AP Government at Spanish Fort High in Baldwin County, Alabama had their expectations of the stereotypical liberal education system flipped on their heads, after their teacher assigned a decidedly one-sided summer reading list.

Teacher Gene Ponder’s list contained 31 books, all of which were written by conservative and libertarian authors.

Headlining the list are conservative classics such as “Abortion and the Conscience of a Nation” by Ronald Reagan, “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder” by radio host Michael Savage, and “Guilty” by Anne Coulter.

President of the local board of education, Shannon Cauley, quickly responded to parental outrage by meeting with the superintendent.

“As a courtesy, the school principal called to let me know that the list had been removed and assignment cancelled,” Cauley wrote on Facebook. “He’ll be sending an email to all Senior students/parents to notify them that there will be no summer reading assignment for this AP government class.”
