Republican Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has agreed to resign Monday afternoon over allegations that he covered up an affair with an aide.
Impeachment investigations were underway, and a top lawyer with the investigation said Bently had not been cooperative. He is accused of “misusing state resources” to keep his affair with the aide from being brought to light.
Special counsel Jack Sharman said the governor’s office only turned over a few text messages between him and his former policital adviser, Rebekah Caldwell Mason. However, his then-wife, Dianne Bentley, was able to access the text messages on his iPad, and turned over the rest of them.
