The Pentagon on Sunday identified the U.S. servicemember killed on Saturday in an apparent insider attack in Afghanistan.
The servicemember, Cpl. Joseph Maciel, died July 7 from wounds sustained during the attack, according to a statement by the Department of Defense (DOD).

Maciel had served in the army for two years and this was his first assignment, according to the Ledger-Enquirer.
“Maciel was an excellent soldier beloved by his teammates and dedicated to our mission,” Lt. Col. Our prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
