A woman wearing a “Rise and Resist” shirt scaled the base of the Statue of Liberty on Wednesday — less than an hour after a group of people were busted for unfurling an “Abolish ICE” banner on Ellis Island.
NYPD aviation teams were responding to Liberty Island around 1:33 p.m. after receiving reports about the female climber.
The article goes on to state the following:
Cops said the woman appears to be part of the group of protesters arrested for the banner stunt. They are members of a larger activist organization, called Rise and Resist NYC.
The group announced the stunt on social media just moments before carrying it out.
“Rise and Resist is at the Statue of Liberty demanding Trump and the GOP #AbolishICE, reunite families now, halt deportations, and end detention as a deterrent,” they wrote on Twitter. “We will fight every day until we end our brutal racist immigration policy.”
