BREAKING: Russia fighter jets come within 20 feet of US Navy

BREAKING:  According to reports, a Russian fighter jet got within 20 feet of a U.S. Navy aircraft on Tuesday.  The event took place in the Black Sea the day before President Trump met with a top Russian official at the White House.

NBC News is reporting that a Su-27 approached the P-8A Poseidon while it was “conducting routine operations in international airspace,” according to Capt. Pamela Kunze, a spokeswoman for U.S. Naval Forces Europe. Kunze says the Russian jet’s maneuver was “safe and professional.”

The Su-27 was reportedly scrambled after the Poseidon appeared to be approaching Russia’s border. The Poseidon soon changed its course.

“After approaching a plane at a safe distance the Russian pilot visually identified the flying object as a US surveillance plane P-8A Poseidon,” the Russian military said. Russian officials called the jet’s intercept a “greeting” maneuver.
