The Friedrich Ebert School in Esslingen-Zel, near Stuttgart, Germany has been evacuated after a gunman was seen prowling on school grounds, sparking a police manhunt.

Police were called amid reports of a man with a gun lurking on the school premises Monday morning, as students were told to barricade themselves in their classrooms.

The armed man is described as being between 17 and 19, with a dark complexion and a beard.

An unidentified man was arrested in the town but later released, amid fears the suspect had escaped on a motorbike.
