Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, the illegal alien who shot and killed 32-year-old Kate Steinle on a San Francisco pier in 2015, was back in court for his sentencing Friday.

The nation was outraged when the five-time deportee with a lengthy criminal record was acquitted in November for Steinle’s murder, only convicting him for illegal possession of a firearm.

Friday, Garcia Zarate’s good fortune continued, as he was sentenced to three years in prison, but then credited for time served, and given 48 months parole.

However, Garcia Zarate will remain in custody, as he now faces federal charges filed against him by the Justice Department on December 5. He is expected to be turned over to U.S. Marshals.

Federal charges filed against him include being a felon in possession of a firearm and being an “illegally present alien” in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Those charges include a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

Garcia Zarate also faces deportation for the sixth time.
