Speaking from his Mar-A-Lago estate in Florida, President Trump announced Monday afternoon that the new National Security Adviser will be Lt. General H.R. McMaster,
McMaster, 54, is a career Army officer who served in the Persian Gulf War and in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is currently the director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center.
McMaster warned in an April 2016 hearing that the Army is too small, saying, “We are outranged and outgunned by many potential adversaries.” He said, “Our army in the future risks being too small to secure the nation.”
He will replace ousted General Michael Flynn.
