BREAKING: Trump scraps Obama’s CIA program with Syrian rebels

A secret program started by the Obama administration in 2013, which armed and trained Syrian rebels fighting against Bashar al-Assad’s government, has been cancelled, according to new reports Wednesday afternoon.

The program was intended to force the ouster of Assad, but Russia has pushed for it to end, and President Trump’s willingness to phase it out is being reported as an indication of his intention to develop a working relationship with Russia.

According to sources, Trump actually made the decision to end the program almost a month ago, after discussing the matter with CIA Director Mike Pomopeo and national security adviser H.R. McMaster before the G20 Summit.

During their meeting at the G20 Summit in Germany recently, President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on a cease-fire in Syria.

Sources claim the decision to end the secret program to arm the rebels in Syria was not a condition of the cease-fire negotiations.

It also is not connected to a separate effort led by the Pentagon to work with Syrian rebels fighting against ISIS.
