Burglar Thwarted with Fire Wood to the Face

According to Raleigh Police, Matthew Lawrence Bergstedt, 27 of Youngsville, North Carolina, tried to burglarize his ex-girlfriend’s apartment around 7 pm Monday.

Unfortunately for Bergstedt, he didn’t know there was a twenty-year-old man inside, who whacked him hard in the face as he tried to enter.

Bergstedt fled the scene and was hiding out in a nearby vacant apartment before being arrested by the police, who were responding to the burglary call.

Bergstedt was charged with misdemeanor counts of breaking and entering and attempted breaking and entering.

Police transported Bergstedt to the Wake County jail where he was released from custody Tuesday morning after posting a $3,000 bond.
