Businesses across the country are cashing in on Comey testimony

The live broadcast of former FBI chief James Comey’s congressional testimony on Thursday is being billed as the “Super Bowl of Washington” as restaurants and bars across the country prepare to cash in on the most anticipated televised event this month. Day-drinking in this case is completely acceptable as bar keepers across the nation offer breakfast specials, including “impeachmint” cocktails and $5 Russian vodka shots.

Television “watch parties” are expected to fill taverns and restaurants from the east coast to the west coast as Comey takes the stand in a high-stakes political show that rivals anything else daytime television could ever possibly offer on a Thursday.

An advance copy of his written testimony released on Wednesday revealed that Comey claimed Trump privately asked him to drop an investigation of his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, as part of the Russia inquiry.

The Axelrad Beer Garden in Houston advertised the event on its Facebook page. “Join us for an early morning beer and engage in friendly debate with fellow patrons,” they invited, noting that they’d be serving a new drink called “the impeachmint.”

Shaw’s Tavern in Washington announced plans to open its doors a half hour before the Comey testimony and offers a $10 “FBI” breakfast special comprised of French toast, bacon and ice cream.

At the Union Pub in Washington, patrons will get a round of drinks every time Trump tweets during Comey’s testimony.

Due to the time difference, San Francisco bars have to open early in the morning to get in on the fun, with some starting at 6 a.m. PDT to give people time to wake up first.

Those who would rather not start the morning in a bar are having parties at home. Corrigan Vaughan, 31, a doctoral student in Anaheim, California, invited her friends to come over at 7 a.m. PDT to attend her California house party.

“We want to actually sit and watch this,” Vaughan said. “Especially for millennials. We feel more personally connected to this one.”
