BUSTED: MS-13 member on FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted List

Authorities announced Saturday that after 4 years on the run, a violent member of MS-13 on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted List has been arrested in Virginia.

After benefitting from some well-timed tips from the public, FBI officials tracked down Walter Yovany Gomez, an illegal alien from Honduras, 20 miles outside of Washington DC in the town of Woodbridge, Virginia.

“The apprehension of Walter Yovany Gomez is a prime example of the close coordination between the vigilant public and the hard working men and women of law enforcement,” Timothy Gallagher, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Newark Office, said. “Gomez will now stand trial for his alleged involvement in a brutal murder which took a young man from his family.”

In 2011, Gomez brutally murdered a fellow MS-13 gang member in Plainfield, New Jersey.

Gomez, who goes by “Cholo” amongst his gang, suspected that the other member, Julio Matute, was getting too close with a rival gang. After a night of partying, Gomez beat Matute with a baseball bat and stabbed him 17 times before slitting his throat with a screwdriver. When police went to arrest Gomez weeks later, he escaped by leaping from a second story window.

President Trump has made eradicating the gang activity of MS-13 one of the cornerstones of his first months in office.

“They kidnap. They extort. They rape and they rob,” Trump said. “They stomp on their victims. They beat them with clubs, they slash them with machetes, and they stab them with knives. They have transformed peaceful parks and beautiful quiet neighborhoods into bloodstained killing fields. They’re animals.”
