School Cancels Field Trip Over Trump’s Executive Order

In Windsor, Ontario, a Canadian public school officially canceled scheduled field trips for students to the U.S. because of President Trump’s executive order temporarily limiting immigration from seven countries.

According to the Detroit Free Press, concerns over border-crossing safety plagued the Greater Essex County District school board in their decision to cancel field trips to Detroit, Michigan, and Washington, D.C.

Approximately 35,000 students attend schools within the district of Windsor.

“It’s just right now — the uncertainty of whether all of our students would be able to cross,” said the school’s superintendent about the decision made on Monday.

At the end of February, administrators will review the policy about terminating U.S. field trips due to the new policy.

Currently, the immigration order has been lifted by a federal judge in Seattle, which resulted in the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denying the Trump administration a request to restore the travel ban.
