A Jimmy John’s cashier remained unusually calm during an armed robbery Wednesday in Kansas City, Missouri.
The robbery occurred at approximately 9 p.m. at the Jimmy John’s located at 3900 Broadway Street when a male customer appears on surveillance footage wearing a bright blue sweatshirt and a ball cap.
The video reveals the robber drawing a handgun from his sweatshirt, demanding that the cashier give him money from the register, and becoming agitated by a remark, presumably made by another worker.
The cashier reacted by calmly removing his plastic glove, throwing it in the trash, methodically gathering money from the drawer, and giving it to the gunman.
In the footage, the robber pointed the gun at the cashier’s head at very close range. The cashier continued to keep calm and even lifted the insert from the cash register, allowing the gunman to grab more cash.
The public provided tips which led the Kansas City Police to the suspect who has been arrested, although his name has not been released.
Viewers who commented on the online video theorized that when the robber cocked his gun, it appeared to have jammed, which would have prevented it from firing. Some guessed that might be the reason that the cashier remained nonchalant—perhaps he was aware that the gun was disabled.
