Catholics react to the pope honoring an abortion activist

Many Catholics were shocked to see news reports emerge last week stating that Pope Francis honored an abortion activist with knighthood.

Now, two leaders in the Catholic church are addressing the fact that the leader of a religion that forbids abortion would confer a great honor upon Lilianne Ploumen, a Dutch politician and rabid abortion proponent.

Michael Hichborn of the Lepanto Institute explained to OneNewsNow that Ploumen is an extremist on the issue of abortion.

“Ploumen is so pro-abortion that she started what’s called the She Decides Foundation,” said Hichborn, who noted, “Within three months, her organization raised $300 million in order to provide funding to organizations that perform abortions.”

Hichborn also pointed out that Ploumen’s fundraising was conducted after President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would no longer use tax dollars to fund abortions in other countries.

Another Catholic leader upset over the Vatican’s apparent disregard for the sanctity of life is Judie Brown of the American Life League.

According to Brown, Pope Francis comes from a so-called progressive group of Jesuits in South America, and this group of Jesuits wants to change Catholic teaching on contraception, abortion, and homosexuality.

She pointed out that right after Pope Francis was elected, he did announce his intention to reform the Catholic church.

“They want to change everything,” Brown warned, noting, “I’m sorry to say that I can’t accept the fact that any pope wants to reform what Christ has established and put in place.”

For the first time in her life, Brown said has found herself in the uncomfortable position of opposing a pope.

“Jesus stated that the gates of hell will not prevail against the church,” she declared. “And I’m not going to let this pope get away with a thing.”
