Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally become victims to the sad ending that befalls many celebrities. Now their family is split apart, with the real victims being the children.
News of Jolie’s request for a divorce made headlines everywhere this week, while Pitt has reportedly stated that he was “blindsided” by the divorce, and is now most concerned about their children, preparing to fight hard for joint custody.
The Daily Mail reported that Pitt said to them in a statement, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids.”
Jolie’s reasons for requesting a divorce were reportedly because she was upset about Pitt’s parenting methods, also listing his “consumption of weed and possibly alcohol, mixed with his anger problem.”
She had also accused him of having an affair with his co-star Marion Cotillard, which his friends are saying is completely untrue.
A close friend to the couple told Daily Mail, “Brad still cares for Angelina very much and respects her as the mother of his children, but after the rhetoric that has been put out over the past 24 hours about his drinking and doing drugs, along with the completely untrue rumors about him having an affair with his co-star Marion Cotillard, he is hoping to be able to turn the volume down.”
The friend said Pitt has requested that none of them say anything negative about Jolie to the press, although she has “gone to war” and “unleashed hell” against him. He had reportedly pleaded with her over the last few days to handle this “like adults” and keep the divorce under wraps, to avoid putting their kids at risk.
The couple first started dating in early 2005. They have six children together, and finally got married just two years ago. Their children are: Maddox, 15; Pax, 12; Zahara, 11; Shiloh, 10; and twins Vivienne and Knox, 8.
Pitt is angry with her for “spinning stories” about him being a risk to the kids over allegations of substance abuse and anger issues, the friend said, and stated there is no possibility that Pitt will allow her to retain full custody of their children.
Now their Los Angeles home is bombarded with photographers, which has resulted in an even greater police presence in the area because of all the media.
The couple had been planning a trip to London, but that was cancelled Monday – the date the divorce papers were filed – although Jolie listed the separation date as Thursday, September 15.
The Daily Mail reported that the couple has a combined estimated net worth of $400 million, which includes a lot of real estate property they own around the world.
One property in France has been for sale for over a year. It was originally listed for $6.5 million, but has now been reduced to $5.65 million.
George Clooney, who is friends to the couple, reacted in shock when he learned of the split:
