Celebrity sends out racist 4th of July tweet

Damon Wayans Jr.’s Independence Day tweet sparked controversy across social media.

“Happy white people proud of their racist ancestors day,” the “Happy Endings” star wrote Tuesday afternoon.

In response to the backlash, Wayans said that his comment was a joke that “some took too personally.”

“Jokes aren’t illegal,” he said to one person who cited “another example of Hollywood talking down to Americans.”

Many shamed the 34-year-old actor for not appreciating his situation.

“Unbelievable. You just live in the best country in the world. You should thank God that you live in America,” someone wrote.

Wayans responded to a handful of others, insisting his statement was just a joke.
