Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman, said in an interview Monday morning that the courts are preventing the Trump administration from protecting the nation against terrorism.
Speaking to Fox and Friends, Chaffetz expressed frustration that the federal government has hesitated to consider a person’s social media activity when determining whether to give people visas to get into the country.
He pointed out that the Obama administration called ISIS the “J.V. team.”
He said, “The major problem right now is in the judicial branch because Congress has clearly given the president… he not only has constitutional authority, but the president has statutory authority in order to make sure that the people that come to this country are properly vetted. And so it’s very frustrating to look over at the judicial branch, a handful of people, who are holding them back.”
