New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie went face-to-face in a confrontation with a baseball fan Sunday after he was apparently heckled while taking his seat at a game in Milwaukee.
The failed presidential candidate, who has been steeped in recent controversy, was snacking at Milwaukee’s Miller Park, where the Brewers were playing the Chicago Cubs. That’s when Christie confronted one of the boisterous fans who was calling him out, according to a reporter at a Milwaukee TV station.
Video of the confrontation showed the Republican governor getting up close and personal with the Cubs fan, whose name was later reported to be Brad Joseph.
Christie, holding what appeared to be a bowl of cheese nachos, leaned into Joseph, who was sporting a Cubs jersey, and berated him for acting like a “big shot.”
“Appreciate that,” Joseph quipped in response, as Christie turned and walked away.
Joseph talked about the tense exchange to Milwaukee’s WISN TV station.
“When he initially was going up the stairs I yelled his name. I yelled his name and told him that he sucked. I called him a hypocrite because I thought it needed to be said. He turned around back towards me and got in my face for what seemed like a long time, but was probably only about 30 seconds or a minute. First he told me, ‘Why don’t you have another beer?’ which I thought was a decent come back, and I thought that was kind of funny. Then he started calling me a tough guy.”
Christie, an avid sports fan who has been spotted at Dallas Cowboys games, has a son, Andrew, who works in the Brewers’ front office. Another video of Christie taken two days earlier at the ballpark showed a fan taking a selfie with the governor.
Nearly two weeks earlier, Christie was faced with another sporting controversy when he was booed after snagging a foul ball at a Mets game.
