Chuck Schumer: “Trump Victory not a Mandate”

NY State Minority leader Chuck Schumer vows to oppose some policies of the Republican controlled Congress, Senate, and White House.

Schumer said that Donald Trump’s victory is not a “mandate”, stressing how the Democrats will fight for their values when the Republican agenda is not in line with theirs.

ABC News reports Schumer stating, “When he’s opposed to our values, we’re going to go after him tooth and nail”. For instance, we’re not going to let him repeal Dodd-Frank or the rules we’ve put in place to limit Wall Street.”

Chuck Schumer who is the incoming Senate Minority leader, threatened, “They’re going to regret the day they try to repeal the [Affordable Care Act],” adding, “When we oppose Trump on values or this presidency takes a dark divisive turn, we’re going to do it tooth and nail.”

Schumer lamented, “Once you lose an election, you look it straight in the eye. You don’t flinch. You don’t blink and you try to examine what you did wrong,” he said. “We did not have a strong, bold economic message. We sort of nibbled around the edges — and not just a message but a platform.”

Schumer stated that as far as a Supreme Court nominee is concerned, “For the Supreme Court, you need a mainstream nominee,” he continued,  “I hope that President Trump, when he becomes president, will nominate someone who might garner bipartisan support, who might be in that mainstream.”

It’s been over a decade since the Republicans controlled the White House, Senate, and Congress. This Republican control should give them massive power to enact the Republican agenda, as long as they all vote together. Schumer seems well aware of this fact.
