The usually Democrat-friendly Chuck Todd took a decidedly different stance on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” when he grilled Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer about his staunch opposition to Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.
The host of the NBC news program brought up three separate Democrats who have announced that they will, in fact, vote to confirm the Donald Trump appointee and go against the senator’s instructions to block the nomination.
“Why not give Neil Gorsuch an up-or-down vote, Senator Schumer?” Todd asked.
Schumer (D-N.Y.) retorted that all parties should find a more “mainstream nominee” and that he believes Gorsuch will not receive the 60 votes needed for the nomination.
Republicans can rely on using the “nuclear option” to get Gorsuch confirmed and Todd chastised Schumer for criticizing that possibility, citing that he himself was involved in the same thing in 2013 when it benefited lower-level court justices that Democrats wanted to get on the bench.
Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), and Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) are three senators who have come out and stated that they will vote ‘yes’ on Gorsuch.
