A Minnesota woman was stabbed 14 times while she was walking home from work recently.
On Dec. 13, Morgan Evenson, 26, was attacked while she was on the way home from her job at an Apple store in Minneapolis.
In an interview with KSTP TV, Evenson said she struggled with the attacker and considers herself fortunate to be alive.
“It was horrifying because I could feel something that felt like it was stinging me, but it was him stabbing me,” Evenson said.
Doctors discovered Evenson suffered a lacerated kidney, as well as 14 wounds that required stitches.
Evenson says she is now recovering from the attack and focused on assisting police in capturing her assailant, to prevent him from assaulting another victim.
“I cannot imagine anyone attacking someone like that and, as a woman, it is especially frightening,” she said. “But I knew I had to fight back and I want him to know I am okay and that he will be caught.”
The website, Jihad Watch, reported that Evenson’s attacker was a Muslim migrant.
Evenson expressed her gratitude to neighbors and passersby who heard her screams and came to her assistance, which prompted her attacker to flee.
“It is very touching to see and hear from so many people who care,” she said. “I am forever grateful to the people who came to my aid and without them I might not have survived.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Evenson in paying her medical expenses.
The account of the incident from the GoFundMe page reads, “December 13th Morgan was walking the eight blocks from work, to home in downtown Minneapolis. Something seemed a little off as she saw a car pull up alongside her but she continued on. A man got out of the vehicle, chased and tackled her to the ground. Morgan was strong and fought with her assailant- clawing, kicking and fighting for her life. The assailant ran off when those nearby heard her cries for help, leaving her with fourteen stab wounds on the face, arm, neck and back, bleeding out on the curb.”
According to the account, “[a] pair was quick to call 911, bring her inside and [wrap] her up in a blanket until help came.”
