The Trump family has reportedly chosen a private school for the first son to attend this fall.
Although it is a stretch from the White House, 11-year-old Barron is scheduled to attend St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland, reports the Daily Caller.
According to the school’s website, St. Andrew’s was founded in 1978 and has an overall enrollment of about 580 students, with class sizes range from 11 to 15 students.
It is described as an “independent, coeducational college preparatory school for students in Preschool through Grade Twelve.”
Access to a first-class education and “state-of-the-art classrooms” would explain the accompanying price tag of $38,590 per year for middle school and $40,650 per year for high school tuition.
St. Andrew’s prides itself on embracing diversity, as stated on its website:
We value and respect all differences, including but not limited to age, ability, ethnicity, family structure, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status,” says the school’s diversity statement. “To build and sustain a diverse community, the school proactively addresses equity and inclusion in its policies, programs, and practices. We hold everyone in our school accountable for respecting the multitude of human identities and perspectives and for promoting a safe and supportive school environment.
Education at the college preparatory school involves “service learning,” which requires students to participate in service-oriented projects, such as the “Positive Leadership Initiative.” It is a fundamental part of the school’s curriculum and deemed a crucial graduation requirement.
Students take a two-day trip to the Youth Service Opportunities Project in Washington, D.C., and stay at a church that also operates a soup kitchen. They hear from a speaker who recounts his or her life experiences that led to homelessness as well as their recovery from it. Then students make, serve, and eat a meal with the homeless.
Despite its name, the school claims it does not identify with any particular religion:
“This phrase in the Philosophy Statement of St. Andrew’s is important to our school because of what it does and does not mean. It does not mean that we want to ‘make Episcopalians’ out of our students. The perspective of the Episcopal Church includes respect for other religious traditions and even for those periods of life when a person is not identified with a particular tradition. …We feel little compulsion to ‘defend God’ or traditional theological expressions.”
While the majority of its student body is predominantly Episcopal (16 percent), other religions are also represented, including Muslim (1 percent), Jewish (10 percent) and Catholic (18 percent).
The Daily Caller reports that Barron will be living in the White House with his parents while attending St. Andrew’s.
