President Trump intends to leave the Paris climate change agreement, according to a new report by the left-leaning news outlet Axios.
In a tweet published Saturday, President Trump stated that he hasn’t yet made a decision. However, Axios is reporting on Sunday that the president told multiple people, including EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, that he plans to remove the U.S. from the agreement.
Under Pruitt’s leadership, the EPA has been trying to win public support for withdrawal from the Paris agreement, which was entered into by the Obama administration without congressional consent. EPA staffers were reported to be “relieved” that Trump would not maintain the status quo by going along with the other world leaders who reaffirmed their commitment to “fighting climate change”.
It was also reported that Trump told French President Emmanuel Macron that he was under “heavy pressure” from those in the U.S. who want him to keep the pact.
