An activist walking barefoot across America to raise awareness about climate change was struck and killed by a car in Florida.
Police say 33-year-old Mark Baumer was walking along the shoulder of U.S. Highway 90 in Walton County on Sunday at about 1:15 pm, when a driver lost control and hit him.
Baumer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baumer has helped raise money for a nonprofit group called the FANG Collective (Fighting Against Natural Gas), a group that opposes the natural gas industry.
FANG wrote on their Facebook page that Baumer was a “talented poet and artist with an ability to tap into the human experience with his work.”
Florida police say the driver will face charges.
Baumer made this post on his Facebook page on Saturday and a YouTube video below shows all the things he was bringing on his journey.
