Hillary Clinton has proven on multiple occasions that she can’t properly handle classified information, and it turns out her top aides can’t either.
Fox News is reporting that an unnamed “senior aide” to Clinton left classified information sitting unsecured in a hotel room during a trip to China in 2010 while Clinton was serving as Secretary of State.
Confirmation of the incident was given to Fox News by State Department spokesman John Kirby in the following statement: “In May 2010, Secretary Clinton was on official travel in Beijing, China, accompanied by senior staff. Upon Secretary Clinton’s departure, a routine security sweep by Diplomatic Security agents identified classified documents in a staff member’s suite.”
This incident was reported by Diplomatic Security, and the Marine security guards present at the time also filed a separate report.
Information on this incident came forward when the FBI was investigating whether Clinton or her staff were in violation of the US Espionage Act by mishandling classified and top secret information.
Kirby also said in the statement that when the classified items were found, the hotel room was still under direct control of diplomatic security.
“To be clear – this was not Secretary Clinton’s hotel room and no citation whatsoever was given to Secretary Clinton, nor were any reports written about Secretary Clinton’s conduct,” State Department spokesman John Kirby told Fox News. “Ultimately, Diplomatic Security concluded that classified information had been improperly secured, but that the evidence did not support assigning culpability to any individual. Furthermore, the Diplomatic Security investigation concluded that due to the fact that the documents were found within a Diplomatic Security controlled area, the likelihood that the information was compromised was remote.”
