President Donald J Trump is facing allegations of being a racist, a charge leveled at him since before his landslide election in November 2016. Now, CNN has broadcasted an interview with former Trump business executive Jack O’Donnell, who had previously written a negative book about Trump.

Speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, O’Donnell said that he does “believe [Trump’s] a racist.”

“I believe anyone who has spent substantial amount of time around him in a casual atmosphere, whether it’s business or dinner or lunch, I believe it would be very difficult that he wouldn’t express these feelings to them over time,” O’Donnell said.

“I just find it very hard to believe that there aren’t more people who know him who don’t believe exactly what I believe, but for one reason or another, aren’t willing to say it publicly, that he is a racist,” O’Donnell continued.

Despite O’Donnell’s assertion, and despite Donald Trump’s numerous acquaintances, cries of racism mainly come from Democrats and liberals, who zero in on specific comments he makes, and call them racist in nature. Those who know Trump best, like his former first wife Ivana Trump, say that he is not a racist.

O’Donnell worked for Trump for three years as president and COO of the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He released a book called “Trumped!” in 1991 with James Rutherford, in which there are claims that Trump is racist, according to The Hill.

Repeating some of his past claims on CNN, O’Donnell claimed that Trump made disparaging remarks about a Black-American executive at his company.

President Trump previously called O’Donnell a “disgruntled former employee” in a 1999 interview with Playboy magazine.

While he admitted offhandedly in the interview that “the stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true,” Trump did not seem to be referring to a specific allegation and it is unclear if he had read the book, or knew what was being claimed. Trump also added, “[I] brought the guy in to work for me; it turns out he didn’t know that much about what he was doing. I think I met the guy two or three times total. And this guy goes off and writes a book about me, like he knows me!”

Trump told reporters Sunday that he is not racist, saying he is “the least racist person you will ever interview.”
