CNN host Reza Aslan has issued an apology following a tweet in which he called President Trump “a piece of shit” and a “man baby” for his response to Saturday’s deadly terror attack in London.

“When in the first few minutes of the terror attack in London, the President of the United States tweeted about his travel ban, I lost my cool and responded to him in a derogatory fashion. That’s not like me,” Aslan said in a statement. “I should have used better language to express my shock and frustration at the president’s lack of decorum and sympathy for the victims of London. I apologize for my choice of words.”

In response to Aslan’s statement, CNN said it was “pleased that he has apologized for his tweets.” The cable news network also said, “That kind of discourse is never appropriate.”

Aslan, a religious scholar, hosts “Believer,” a Sunday night show on CNN that focuses on spirituality. A CNN spokesperson claimed that Aslan is not actually employed by CNN.
