Conservative watchdog group, Project Veritas, released part two of their undercover expose against CNN on Wednesday, which caught CNN’s Van Jones on camera stating that “the Russian thing is just a big nothing burger.”
Jones hit back Thursday, claiming that his words in the video were taken out of context “to pull off a hoax.” In his written editorial opinion piece on CNN, Jones wrote, “Serious question: Is anyone out there still gullible enough to fall for an edited, right-wing propaganda video — in 2017?”
“James O’Keefe and his band of crazies are at it again. This time I am one of the targets. Yesterday, O’Keefe released a so-called “bombshell” video of me, standing outside CNN’s Los Angeles bureau. I was answering a passerby’s question by saying: ‘The whole Russia thing is a big nothing-burger. There is nothing you can do –‘ before I was cut off by the arrival of my CNN coworkers.”
Jones called O’Keefe a “notorious con man,” accused him of posting “fake, doctored videos,” said “his hoaxes are notoriously pathetic and embarrassing,” and added that “O’Keefe is the kind of person from whom decent people run like the plague.”
Jones explained his side of the incident when he made the “nothing-burger” comment:
“Did I mean that there is ‘nothing’ to the allegations that members of team Trump colluded with the Russians and then tried to cover it up by firing FBI Director James Comey? No – and far from it.”
“But that’s not what I was talking about. I have been consistently pushing my fellow Democrats to deal with bread and butter issues – and not just hope and believe Trump will be impeached and gone tomorrow. I have been beating on this drum for weeks now.”
Jones made note of a comment he had tweeted recently, stating, “I think Democrats are fooling ourselves if we think that something is going to come out of this investigation that this is somehow going to end the Trump presidence and make everything better.”
Still no fan of Trump, Jones wrote, “Americans will probably have to wait until 2020 and then vote Trump out of office,” adding “we are likely stuck with Trump until at least 2020.”
He claimed O’Keefe took his argument out of context and used it to “pull off a hoax.”
