If there was ever an article that you needed to share with your liberal friend or family member to prove there is a double standard when it comes to the media, this is the article you’ve been waiting for.
Bill O’Reilly, the highest-rated host in cable news history, lost his prime time TV news show because of ALLEGATIONS that he sexually harassed women.
The allegations were never proven, but the center-right commentator and his employer, Fox News, paid out a total of $13M to his accusers over the past few years in out-of-court settlements. Even though O’Reilly denies any wrong-doing, almost 100 sponsors pulled their ads from his show after the left-leaning New York Times ran an article highlighting the settlements.
Regardless of his innocence or guilt, O’Reilly’s removal should be an indicator that racism, homosexual bashing, and harassment of any kind is no longer tolerated in today’s society, especially when it’s conducted by a person of power. Unless, of course, you are a liberal in power. Then it is OK.
On Monday evening, “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert put out one of the most disgusting monologues in public television history. His rant was filled with curse words, and he made statements that bashed on President Trump, his supporters, and homosexuals. I won’t repeat all that he said — if you want the full recap, click here for the video — but in short, he ended his rant by saying President Trump’s mouth is now a place where President Vladimir Putin inserts his penis.
The next day the hashtag #fireColbert went viral on Twitter and Facebook. People on both sides of the aisle were outraged by his comments. Every news media outlet on the right made it their top headline. Outlets on the Left mentioned the monologue in passing, some saying it wasn’t all that big of a deal, and some said by no means was Colbert bashing homosexuals.
Last night, Colbert opened his show by bragging that he remains the host of “The Late Show.” In other words, he ain’t getting fired anytime soon.
Colbert said “screw you” without actually saying the words. He said he has “no regrets” for ripping into the president or his supporters, but wishes he could change some of the statements he made towards the end of his rant. He closed by saying that anyone who expresses their love for another person is an American hero in his mind. Well, at least his statement confirms what I think of him… he is an American loser. He is a hate monger.
If Sean Hannity of Fox News said the same things Colbert said on Monday night, Hannity would lose his TV show, his radio show, and his career, as a whole. Colbert loses nothing. He doesn’t get as much as a suspension or a fine. No advertisers have bailed out on him. And, that is what you call a double standard of epic measure.
Below is the opening monologue from Colbert on Wednesday evening:
