Colbert offers rare defense of President Trump (video)

Late night talk show host Stephen Colbert says Americans have the right to trash the president, but gives a stern warning to North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un that doing so is an American privilege only.

On Friday’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the liberal, Trump-bashing Colbert jokingly defended President Trump, after Kim compared Trump’s U.N. speech to “the sound of a dog barking.”

“Pretty sick burn on our president to which I have to say knock it off, North Korea,” Colbert said.

Directing his comments to the leader of the rouge nation, Colbert continued: “You are not allowed to insult our leader like that. Sure, I’ve had my problems, such as everything he has said and done, but I’m not going to stand here as an American and let somebody from another country talk smack about our president.”

While his comments bordered on patriotism, he went on to add less supportive commentary: “We can do it, okay? Membership has its privileges.”(video below)

Earlier this month, Colbert shocked Americans when he threw the president three “Nazi salutes.” During his monologue, he’d claimed the president “hawked a new line of USA hats, marveled at the size of the crowd he received, and failed to meet with a single victim of the devastating natural disaster during his first go-around,” during his trip to Texas, following the devastating Hurricane Harvey. He also attacked Ivanka Trump, making disgusting remarks about Ivanka because she calls her father, “Daddy.”

Last weekend, Colbert hosted the 2017 Emmy Awards show, and swiftly turned into a Trump-bashing fest. His efforts weren’t rewarded with ratings.  A report from Nielsen Media Research revealed that the show to be the lowest-rated in its televised history, even sliding downward from last year’s all-time low when Jimmy Kimmel hosted the program on ABC.
