In his return following a week off from the “Late Show,” host Stephen Colbert mocked President Trump’s renewed interest in a travel ban.

“The administration’s only chance of winning is not calling it a travel ban,” Colbert said of the revised version of the president’s initial executive order which has been submitted to the Supreme Court. He then showed a video clip of press secretary Sean Spicer insisting that the order is not a ban.

“So this thing should get approved by the Supreme Court as long as nobody calls it a ‘travel ban.’”

Colbert then showed Trump’s Monday morning tweet that said, “People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!”

“Come on!” Colbert said. “Mr. President, that was the one thing you’re not supposed to say! That’s like going to an AA meeting and shouting ‘who wants shots?’ They all do. That’s why they’re there. Don’t say it!”

Colbert then showed another Trump tweet: “The Justice Department should have stayed with the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted to S.C.”

“Mr. President, you can’t criticize the Justice Department,” he said. “You control the Justice Department. To quote third-grade boys everywhere, ‘why are you hitting yourself?’”
