A professor at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington is being run off campus by protesting students, out of fears for his own safety.

The students are demanding the resignation of science professor Bret Weinstein, claiming he made “racist” remarks in a March 2017 email.

The comments he made in the email to other faculty members that has the students in such an uproar were the following:

“I would encourage others to put phenotype aside and reject [a proposed format for an Evergreen event]. On a college campus, one’s right to speak – or to be – must never be based on skin color.”

The professor also offered to host a discussion of race “through a scientific/evolutionary lens,” so long as people attended the event with “an open mind, and a willingness to act in good faith.”

Wednesday, hundreds of students descended into a school library and circled around the college president’s office in a mass protest, demanding that Weinstein be ousted.

“Hey-hey, ho-ho, these racist teachers have got to go,” they chanted. Some carried “Black lives matter” signs, as the students of color claimed they aren’t treated fairly.

The protesters then sent a news release statement to The Olympian that read: “What started out as anti-black comments on social media has turned into the dismissal of the rights of students and femmes of color, physical violence by police, and false sentencing of students protesting. Black trans disabled students are actively being sought out and confronted by campus police constantly, police are refusing to explain their actions and harassment. Students will not stand for this anymore, as students of color have never felt comfortable on campus and have not been treated equally.”

The Daily Caller reported that the college president tried to pacify the protesters with proposed changes, including, “employing students to examine the school’s code of conduct, giving students more say in faculty evaluations, and training faculty on student engagement, anti-black racism, sexual assault, police brutality, and collaboration with transgender and queer students.”

In addition, he promised students that the college would not cooperate with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in regards to illegal alien students.
