If life gets too rough for former FBI director James Comey, he at least has another option – Russian president Vladimir Putin has offered to allow him to come to Russia.
According to Russian media outlett TASS, Putin stated at a press conference, “If he continues to be persecuted in this connection, we will be ready to provide political asylum to him, he should know about that.”
TASS got part of their story wrong, however, as they indicated that Comey had “secretly recorded his conversation with Trump,” when in fact he wrote a written memo detailing the conversation afterward.
The Russian news reported that Putin said what Comey did “is no different than Edward Snowden, so Moscow is willing to provide political asylum to him.”
“This sounds strange when a secret service chief records his conversation with the commander-in-chief to hand the record to the media,” Putin reportedly added.
