Fired FBI director James Comey is officially a writer, as the disgraced lawyer is setting about writing a book on leadership and decision-making, to be published by Flatiron Books.
According to The Associated Press, Comey’s book will be about his experiences at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, from the events surrounding the bureau’s probe into failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of her private email server, to the allegations of collusion between Russia and members of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
In June, reports began circulating that Hollywood producers and publishing companies were hoping to strike a deal with the man who’d been recently dismissed from the Bureau. Hoping for unpublished details about Comey’s intimate knowledge of the investigations into Trump and Clinton, or private conversations he may have had, his pursuers were undoubtedly hoping for something controversial or revealing.
Flatiron publisher and president, Bob Miller said Comey will cite “examples from some of the highest-stakes situations in the past two decades of American government” and “share yet-unheard anecdotes from his long and distinguished career.”
“Throughout his career, James Comey has had to face one difficult decision after another as he has served the leaders of our country. His book promises to take us inside those extraordinary moments in our history, showing us how these leaders have behaved under pressure. By doing so, Director Comey will give us unprecedented entry into the corridors of power, and a remarkable lesson in leadership itself.”
Comey made national headlines during the 2016 presidential campaign, as he led the FBI’s investigation into Clinton. Comey’s handling of that investigation was criticized by both Republicans and Democrats, many of whom lost confidence in the director.
Comey was fired in May, then quickly leaked classified information to the press. He’s been condemned for the move, and an investigation into those activities has been approved by the House Judiciary Committee.
Financial terms of the book deal were not disclosed, but some sources said the bid topped $2 million.
The currently untitled book is scheduled for publication next spring.
