Republican Rep. Ted Yoho (FL) said Monday he would have taken a meeting with a Russian national that had harmful information about a political opponent.
During an appearance on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Yoho responded to the news about Donald Trump Jr. holding a meeting with a Russian lawyer about information she alleged to have regarding Hillary Clinton back in June 2016. Yoho said, “Do I think it’s appropriate? I think I probably would have done the same thing.”
During the spot on CNN, Yoho said he felt Trump Jr took the meeting for exploratory reasons.
“I mean, it’s opposition research and you know, anybody that’s been in an election, you’re always looking to get the upper hand,” Yoho said, noting the person Trump Jr. met with was a lawyer and not a government official. “And if somebody comes to us and says, ‘Hey we’ve got information on an opponent,’ yeah, I think that’s an appropriate thing to do,” he added.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Kremlin says they have no connection to Veselnitskaya.
Trump Jr. said he didn’t receive any damaging information about Clinton during the meeting.
