Today, TheHill.com published an article about Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) being in prime position to run for president in 2020 if Donald Trump leads the GOP to a loss in November. In short, here is what they want you to know:
The Hill article shines a light on Ryan’s recent speech given to hundreds of congressional interns. It states: “To many observers, the Speaker looked and sounded presidential.”
They quote Ryan: “My dad used to say, if you’re not a part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem. So I have made it a mission of my Speakership to raise our gaze and aim for a brighter horizon. Instead of talking about what politics is today, I want to talk about what politics can be. I want to talk about what our country can be.”
The Hill points out that the last-minute speech set off rampant speculation on Twitter. “I think Paul Ryan just launched his 2020 campaign,” tweeted Chicago consultant @johnvmoore. “2020 run?” added Bloomberg’s Steve Dennis.
“Ryan has slowly, carefully been pitching himself as the Republican Party’s anti-Trump,” wrote one Washington Post blogger, “and Wednesday’s speech sounded like he hoped to emerge as an alternative to a party burned by Trump for 2020.”
Both privately and publicly, Republicans in Washington are warning that a Trump nomination could be disastrous for the party in the general election. The businessman has called Mexican immigrants rapists, proposed a ban on Muslims coming to the U.S., mocked a disabled person, encouraged violence against protesters at his rallies and made crude remarks about women, including about former presidential candidate Carly Fiorina and Fox News’s Megyn Kelly.
The Hill made it a point to publish the findings of a Monmouth University poll released last week that found Clinton crushing Trump in a general-election match-up, 48 percent to 38 percent. But for some reason they failed to publish all the polls that show Trump crushing Cruz and Kasich. Does The Hill — and all the conservative outlets like them — fail to realize that bringing Trump down is the same as propping Hillary up?
Even though Donald Trump continues to win primaries in epic fashion, the “conservative” media continues to sell the story of Trump losing to Hillary in November. And here is why…
The Hill is discussing options for 2020 because they know Trump can win in November, and that scares them to no end. There’s another point worth emphasizing. Don’t overlook The Hill touting an amnesty lover like Paul Ryan for 2o20. It reveals why they fear Trump, and it solidifies my theory that most conservative media outlets support open borders despite all the articles they push about not liking Obama’s illegal executive order granting amnesty. That said, let me end on this note….
In the rare event Trump does lose the election to Hillary, and Paul Ryan decides to run in 2020, then he should know there’s a guy ready to run against him. And if Ryan thinks Donald Trump is tough on immigration, he better prepare himself for a much stronger, more passionate, and very convincing voice who will fill the gaps Trump didn’t fill. I’ll just leave it at that and let you guess the rest.
