The Palestinians of Hebron have a new mayor: convicted terrorist Tayseer Abu Sneineh.

On May 2, 1980, Sneineh and four other Palestinians opened fire on a group of yeshiva students who were dancing from the Cave of the Patriarchs to Hebron’s Beit Hadassah neighborhood. The Palestinians killed six Jewish students, including two dual American-Israeli citizens and a Canadian national, and at least 20 more Israeli students were injured in the attack, which was heralded as an act of bravery. The four terrorists were all sentenced to life in prison, but were released through prisoner exchange deals between the two countries in the 1980s.

During his election campaign, Sneineh was heralded as a “hero” by his party, called Fatah.

Dani Dayan, Consul General of Israel in New York,  tweeted his disgust, stating, “His previous career achievements? He assassinated 6 six Jewish students.”

President Trump will visit Israel this month, and Davidi Ben Sion, deputy head of the Shomron Regional Council, expressed his concern that the American leader “is likely to push for some kind of diplomatic process between Israel and the Arabs, the same Arabs who today elected a mayor and a murderer.”

Ben Sion pointed out, “No one is surprised that the Palestinian Authority educates for murder, encourages terrorism and that the murderers are their cultural heroes and the leaders of their younger generation.”

In an appeal to Trump, he added, “Mr. President if I were you, I would not be humiliated. If you have self-respect, reconsider your visit to [Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud] Abbas, who denies the Holocaust and encourages murder.
