Bill Cosby’s attorneys are playing the race card as they complain that only one member of the jury that will decide the actor’s fate is black.
Cosby, who has been accused of sexual assault, was in a Pittsburgh court Wednesday as jury selection took place. The judge denied that the prosecution has participated in the “systematic exclusion” of black jurors but added that he will consider the pretense if Cosby’s team can show statistics to back up their accusations of racism.
The process for selecting jurors is ongoing.
Charges against Cosby stem from a former Temple University employee, Andrea Constand, who says that he drugged and assaulted her in 2004.
More than 50 women have come forward with similar accusations that Cosby gave them pills and alcohol before sexually assaulting them while they were incapacitated.
