While in Charleston, South Carolina covering Hurricane Matthew, a prominent black reporter finally had to call police after being insulted and harassed by a man on the street.
Steve Crump, 59, a reporter for WBTV Channel 3, is an awarding-winning maker of civil rights documentaries and the great-great grandson of Kentucky slaves.
He had just completed an interview on October 8 when a man sitting on the sidewalk started making an iPad video of him, and called him the “N” word.

The offender, Brian Eybers, 21, was arrested. The Charlotte Observer reported that Eybers is from Arlington, Virginia, and is a guitarist in a band called “Face Control.”
