Senator Ted Cruz has suddenly made headlines after something unusual showed up on his Twitter account.

Cruz’s official Twitter account shows that he “liked” an X-rated porn video. The video was not actually tweeted from his account, but since it was “liked,” it appeared there.

Once discovered, the “like” has now been removed from his page. But, as usual, screenshots have already been captured.

In addition, the Twitter account on which the porn video was “liked” has now picked up on the new publicity it is receiving and has updated its bio, encouraging people to “follow the same porn @TedCruz watches.”

Cruz responded to the incident Tuesday by explaining that it was not himself, but one of his staff members, who “inadvertently hit the like button.”

“There are a number of people on the team who have access on the account. It appears that someone inadvertently hit the like button. When we discovered the post, which was, I guess, an hour or two later, we pulled it down,” Cruz (R-Texas) said of the incident. “It was a staffing issue. And it was inadvertent, it was a mistake. It was not a deliberate act. We’re dealing with [it] internally, but it was a mistake. It was not malicious,” Cruz stated.

According to reporters, Cruz said on Tuesday that it was “still being discussed” whether the guilty staff member would continue to have access to his Twitter account.

Cruz’s senior communications adviser, Catherine Frazier, tweeted out an additional statement Tuesday, saying, “The offensive tweet posted on @tedcruz account earlier has been removed by staff and reported to Twitter.”

Twitter users aren’t buying the explanation, as is evident by the follow sample of comments:
