Cruz challenger takes advantage of his failure to condemn Judge Moore

Since Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has not withdrawn his endorsement of Alabama senate candidate Judge Roy Moore, Cruz’s Democratic challenger is using the issue as a fundraising opportunity.

Thursday, the Washington Post published a stunning claim that several women have accused Judge Moore of sexual misconduct, alleging that he pursued them when they were teenagers, in the late 1970s, when he was in his early 30s.

Democrat Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who is on a mission to take Cruz’s senate seat, sent out a fundraising email to supporters on Friday, asking for a $3 donation.

“Ted Cruz has endorsed Roy Moore, and since this news broke yesterday, Cruz has called the allegations ‘troubling’ – but he has not pulled his endorsement,” O’Rourke said in the fundraising email. “It’s not that complicated, Ted Cruz: we’re talking about potentially elevating a man who preyed on young girls to the U.S. Senate.”

After the allegations were published, Sen. Cruz released a statement saying, “These are serious and troubling allegations. If they are true, Judge Moore should immediately withdraw. However, we need to know the truth, and Judge Moore has the right to respond to these accusations.”

Moore has fiercely denied the allegations, and is running for U.S. Senate against Democrat Doug Jones, with the election set for Dec. 12.

Friday, two Republican senators did pull their endorsement of Moore: Sen. Mike Lee (Utah) and Sen. Steve Daines (Mt.)
