Cyberbullied Teen Commits Suicide

In Texas City, 18-year-old Brandy Vela committed suicide on Tuesday after bullies were tormenting her on social media. “My heart’s broken,” said Raul Vela, Brandy’s father. “I lost my angel today.”

The online harassment of the Texas City High School Senior began more than a year ago when an anonymous user began using her picture online. “And continually posting nasty things about her,” said Vela. “Set up an account saying she was actually soliciting sex… Sometimes she wouldn’t sleep. She’d call me at night. She’d say ‘Dad, I can’t sleep. My phone keeps ringing.’ And nobody was willing to help. The help never came.”

Despite the pages of Brandy being taken down, they would reemerge days later. That’s when Brandy sent out an email to her family members claiming she was going to kill herself. They rushed home and found her alive, but she was holding a gun to her forehead.

“And we tried to persuade her to put the gun down but she was determined. She said she’d come too far to turn back. It was very unfortunate that I had to see that. It’s hard when your daughter tells you to turn around. You feel helpless,” cried Vela.

Brandy then pulled the trigger and committed suicide in front of her family. Police are now investigating what took place online between Brandy and her peers. Video below:
