In keeping with tradition, President Trump and Vice-President Pence will attend an interfaith prayer ceremony Saturday morning.
The service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral, where 26 religious leaders of different faiths will reportedly be participating. The tradition reportedly dates all the way back to George Washington.
The presidential inaugural committee released a statement that said, “The interfaith ceremony will be in keeping with the uniting and uplifting inaugural events, demonstrating President-elect Trump’s commitment to be president for all Americans.”
Vice-President Mike Pence and his wife Karen, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, and several of Trump’s children and grandchildren attended the service.
At one point (1:36:20), a young girl sang, “How Great Thou Art,” and Melania was visibly moved to tears.
President Trump passionately joined in when the audience sang the national anthem.
