Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney released a statement on his Facebook page Monday evening, ending all speculation about whether he would be the next Secretary of State.
Romney said, “It was an honor to have been considered for Secretary of State of our great country,” and stated that he has very high hopes that “the new administration will lead the nation to greater strength, prosperity and peace.”
Business Insider reported that Trump called Romney to let him know he did not get the job. It is now expected that Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson will be officially announced as Trump’s final choice Tuesday morning.
