The son of Vice President Mike Pence, Marine Corps. Second Lt. Michael Pence and his bride, Sarah Whiteside, have plans to hold a small, private wedding celebration on Saturday, but a local Democratic activist has created quite a stir after falsely informing locals that the event will shut down an entire park.

The young couple were married in December in a small legal ceremony in the Indiana governor’s mansion, due to the young Pence’s Marine Corps duty, and while his father was still governor of Indiana.

Now they are holding a more traditional, but intimate wedding ceremony in an Indiana state park on Saturday.

Sue Wanzer, a local school board member and Democratic activist, posted a warning on her Facebook page Wednesday, claiming the event was going to shut down the entire park, and had locals outraged. The original post has now been deleted from her page.

Her post read: “Heads up: If you’re planning a trip to Nashville (Ind.) this weekend, you should probably scrap that. Pence’s kid is getting married in Brown County State Park. It’s going to be an utter mess and a lot of areas (like the state park) will be shut down in large portions. This is unpublished, but reports from state park staff and things like flight restrictions over Nashville seem to confirm.”

The report is false, as Bloomington’s Herald-Times reported that “The park will remain open this weekend, which is expected to be busy because of warm temperatures and fall leaves bursting with colors.”

Brown County State Park manager Doug Baird was quoted as confirming, “The fact that the vice president will be here will not impact our regular visitors.”

When Wanzer first published the false report that the park would be shut down, people were outraged, saying, “Pence ruins everything!”

Wanzer has been called out on her Facebook post for the false alarm, with one person commenting, “Heads up! You look pretty stupid now. Don’t you?”

Another wrote, “Congrats on making the news cycle on Twitter. Suppose if this was O’s daughter’s wedding you all would have been ok with this being in the park. But Pence’s son? You don’t like.”

An Instagram post by Vice President Mike Pence’s daughter in December included a photo of the new couple on the day of their legal wedding ceremony, with her happy message, “I got a new sister for Christmas! Congratulations, you two. We love you both so much. Sarah, you married my hero today and I know you will take amazing care of him his entire life. Thank you.”
