Dem billionaire launches expanded effort to impeach Trump

One of the Democratic Party’s largest donors, billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer of California, has just announced he’s expanding his effort to try to impeach President Donald Trump, by spending yet another $10 million.

Steyer, who President Trump has labeled “wacky and unhinged,” had reportedly spent $90 million during the 2016 election season trying to elect Democratic candidates and stop Trump from winning the presidency. After that failed, he launched a $10 million television ad campaign in October, seeking Trump’s impeachment.

Steyer’s video ads were running on the Fox News channel, until Fox cancelled the ad campaign due to backlash from conservative viewers.

Thursday, Steyer reportedly announced on a conference call that he is dumping another $10 million into two new television ads, one which will highlight the fact that nearly 2 million people have signed his online petition calling for Trump’s impeachment. The other television ad will ask supporters to submit their ideas for a new ad campaign.

In one of his first television ad videos, Steyer claimed that “this president is a clear and present danger who is mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons.”

He taunted President Trump with a Twitter post after the Democrat wins Tuesday’s elections. Trump had tweeted last month that “Wacky & totally unhinged Tom Steyer, who has been fighting me and my Make America Great Again agenda from beginning, never wins elections!”

Wednesday, after several Democrats won elections, Steyer tweeted back, “You were saying?”

Steyer is also said to be considering running for California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat, and has said he will make a decision soon about that possibility.
