A Democratic congressman feels that news of a candidate rigging a primary election and subverting the will of voters in a presidential primary election is just an unimportant distraction.

According to Rep. Mike Quigley (D- Ill.), former Democratic National Committee Chair Donna Brazile’s revelations, which allege proof that the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries were manipulated to favor Hillary Clinton, are nothing but a diversionary tactic.

“It is, indeed, a distraction and it’s just one more example of insulting the American public: ‘Look at this shiny object instead of the most important investigation in our country’s history since Watergate,’” Quigley said while speaking to CNN’s Poppy Harlow on Friday.

Brazile makes the allegations against twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in her upcoming book, “Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns that Put Donald Trump in the White House.” She says that an arrangement was made between the DNC and Clinton, allowing Clinton control as she helped infuse the DNC with money.

Quigley said he prefers Americans continue to focus on special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into allegations of Russian collusion with the Republican candidate. He said, “The allegations that [Brazile] talks about in the book are well worth investigating. The Democratic Party needs to look at itself long and hard to make sure our process is appropriate, but it is by no means comparable to what’s taking place in the Mueller investigation.”

He said calling the Democratic primaries “rigged” is inaccurate. He said the president has demonstrated a willingness to do anything to gain power, and now will do anything to retain it.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) both agreed with terminology suggesting the Democratic primaries were rigged.
