Democratic Civil War: Sanders Asked to Stand Down After Nevada Convention

As poll results start coming for the Oregon and Kentucky primaries, many analysts are wondering how the Democratic delegates will play out. This is because over this past weekend in the Nevada convention, Bernie Sanders supporters erupted into violent chaos as Hillary Clinton was announced the winner. Riots broke out, chairs were thrown, and constituents were booed off the stage followed by verbal death threats from the crowd, claiming corruption. In a press release on Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid called on Sanders to tone down his campaign’s “penchant for violence.”

Sanders immediately responded following Reid’s statements. His sentiments outlined that those backing Hillary and those who ran the Nevada Democratic convention were corrupt:

“If the Democratic Party is to be successful in November, it is imperative that all state parties treat our campaign supporters with fairness and the respect that they have earned. It is imperative that the Democratic leadership, both nationally and in the states, understand that the political world is changing and that millions of Americans are outraged at establishment politics and establishment economics,” Sanders said in his response.

Reid and other Hillary supporters like Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz of the DNC establishment were angered by Sanders insistence. “Bernie is better than that,” Reid told CNN News. “Bernie should say something and not have some silly statement that someone else prepared for him.” It will be interesting to see how Sanders supporters will continue to react as Hillary picks up more delegates.

And they say Trump fans are aggressive.
